Sprinkler Protection Design Guidance for Lithium-ion Batteries Now Available

Sprinkler Protection Design Guidance for Lithium-ion Batteries Now Available

(OP)
FM has just released details on the full scale testing of lithium-ion batteries, see detail below:

Bottom line they burn really good! In some storage configurations they should be protected the same as flammable liquids!!!! They have details for many store configurations. I can see many insurance recommendations being made for sprinkler protection upgrades since the industry now has full scale test data and protection guidelines.

The fun has just started....

RE: Sprinkler Protection Design Guidance for Lithium-ion Batteries Now Available

I just received this today. The findings are pretty interesting, but not surprising. Remember, if you are designing to the 2016 edition of NFPA 13, this specific commodity is outside the scope of the standard. See NFPA 13 (2016 edition) Table A.5.6. Therefore, an AHJ could be required to approve the use of FM data as the basis of design.
