Exterior Veneer Masonry - Allowable Height & 2003 IRC

(OP)
Masonry Designers:

Regarding cast-stone units over wood framing, what does 2003 IRC mean in section R703.7, page 207 when it stipulates "an additional 8 feet permitted for ends" considering the allowable height of masonry veneer being 30 feet for buildings in Seismic Design Categories A and B? Other references for structures in Seismic Categories C and D state "gable ends". Also, this building has flat roof areas, no gables.

Thanks,

DCEngr1
