modeling soil settlement in ABAQUS

(OP)
Hi,
Can anyone explain what is the difference between Mohr-coulomb model and modified cam-clay model when predicting settlement of soil, either sand or clay, which one is more accurate and why?

It seems to me that Mohr-coulomb model requires common parameters such as C, Phi and dilatancy angle which is easy to obtain while the modified cam-clay model requires different parameters such as compression and swelling index, and the slope of the critical line M. Is there a rule of thumb on when to use which?

Thank you!
