NX community,

Can you omit symbolic threads from the Reference Set?
I "thought" you could at some point (maybe in NX 3?) but I'm unable to do so now, even if I create the symbolic threads as a separate feature, using the stand-alone Thread command.

P.S. - I'm currently running on NX 10.

Thanks in advance,
Sean

RE: NX community, Can you omit symbo

I don't think you can actually remove the 'feature' itself, but you should be able to remove the curves which represent the feature, at least the extra dashed arc(s).

Hi John - thanks for responding,

That's thing though, I thought you could remove the symbolic threads (dashed arcs) too, however that doesn't seem to be the case anymore and it hasn't for several versions of NX now.

I've tested it a few ways, and used the 'Solid Body' type filter, but still it grabs the arcs, so now I'm not even sure if it was ever possible.

If you know of a way, please advise.

Sean

RE: NX community, Can you omit symbo

where / how don't you want it to appear ?
We did have for very many years the issue that the threads did not copy to wave links, ( ~opposite issue) but that is solved since a few releases back.

Tomas

Hi Toost,

I personally don't see a real need to do this but I'm on the board, so to speak, for creating a new NX Best Practices document and someone else had mentioned the need to omit dashed arcs from the Reference Set so it doesn't create confusion in assembly drawings??

This has never been an issue for me...
Besides, we employ the Master Model method here, which means all of our drawings are technically NX assemblies (even piece parts), and certainly we want to see the threads on the prints.

I replied by letting everyone know that isn't even possible, ha, but now I want to make sure I was right in saying this because honestly thought you could do this once upon a time, whether right or wrong, but I've noticed that hasn't been the case for a while.
At least, not that I'm aware (I've been on NX 3, 5, 7.5, 8.5, 9, 10).

Besides running various hands on tests, I looked into Modeling Preferences, Customer Defaults etc., and I still couldn't find a setting to change the results.

RE: NX community, Can you omit symbo

If you want to hide the curve in a drawing view, you can always use "view dependent edit" to hide it.

RE: NX community, Can you omit symbo

Symbolic threads seems to be handled differently than other curves (automatic inclusion with solid bodies in reference sets), as far as i know there is no way of only hiding the thread curves that do not involve setting a specific selection filter (arc, dashed), moving to specific layer etc. It would be very helpful if threads got their own sub filter in the show hide dialog under curves and or a type filter.

It seems same to say that it is not an option for Reference Sets.

You're right Cowski, you can remove basically anything using View Dependent Edit - though that would be a significant pain with large assemblies that have a bunch of sub-level threads.

Petulf, I agree it would be nice to have a separate filter for symbolic thread arcs.

Thanks everybody,
Sean

RE: NX community, Can you omit symbo

But the latter issue ( i.e large assemblies etc) has a simple solution, threads have a separate setting for drawing views, and can be omitted completely.

Tomas

Toost, that's a great point, thanks for the reminding me that there's an option for None in the view Settings for displayed threads.

You can make the same change in the Drafting Preferences, and any added view from that point would be without threads too.

Thanks again!
