In my application, I have valves connected to GRP flanges. shall I use a rubber gasket or spiral wound gasket for GRP flanges.

Thanks in advance.

a7med217,
As LittleInch says, a "Full Face Rubber /Neoprene Gasket".

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

so we can't use a metal gasket to GRP flange or this is not recommended

RE: Using Spiral wound gasket to GRP pipe

a7med217,
If you do not believe us then contact the Customer Service people for GRP pipe flanges. Ask them if Full Face Gaskets are recommended.

Also look here and you will see lots of GRP Flat Face Flanges.

RE: Using Spiral wound gasket to GRP pipe

The whole propose of a gasket is to deform to seal off the imperfections in the flange. A metal gasket would be stronger than the flange face of a grp flange. Using a non full face metal gasket risks cracking the flange.

RE: Using Spiral wound gasket to GRP pipe

Yeah, I've never met the FRP flange that could take the preload necessary to activate a spiral wound. Remember that rubber effects a seal at 0 psi (not in practice, but still), spiral wounds need upwards of 10,000 psi.
