Creating new Tool in for CAM Operation Milling

Hey Guys,

I am new here and i got a Question about CAM in NX.

How can i create a new Tool for my Milling Operation?

Thanks. glasses

RE: Creating new Tool in for CAM Operation Milling

If you're new to NX CAM, I recommend you take an hour and go through the first one or two tutorials to see the basic workflow. Menu > Help > Manufacturing Tutorials.

@markrief

i have already done the Tutorials, but didn't find any solution for my Problem.

@joycejo

Can i create a Tool in CAD and insert in the CAM ?

Let's be certain about this discussion.
Are you looking to create a cutting tool like an end mill or drill or something else?

Hey John,

i want to simulate a whirling prozess in NX CAM. I have already figured out, how to use
"Generic Motion" in Milling Operation for my tool path, but the given tool shapes are not
fulfill requirements. Because of that i need a new cutting tool for my
operation in NX CAM.

If you need more Information just write it down.
I am thankful for every answer.

You can create 5,7 & 10 parameter tools as well as step drills, barrel cutters, spherical mills and T cutters

If you need something truly "User Defined" then you are limited to planar profile operations.
If you show us an image of the "tool" it would help.

The number of the blades (yellow) is not relevantly. It is also enough if i would have just one of this blades.

I hope you can see my upload. Otherwise you can search in google for the term "thread whirling" and see enough exampels.

Thank you.

I can see the image you posted.

I have no experience with Thread Whirling. What type of tool path are you looking to get from NX? Will this tool follow the contour of the thread or simply follow a straight line at a specified feed/pitch? To me this looks more like a Turning operation than milling.

If it a single pass then you can create a "User Defined " tool to represent a single tooth/blade and drive that with planar profile.

Hey John thank you.
On the E-Learning Plattform of Siemens NX i could find a video for my "User Defined" Tool Problem.

The kinematic aspect is quite difficult. I have two rotation axis and a single translatory movement of my tool in direction of my blank rotation axis (feed/pitch). My blank has his own rotation axis like in turning operation but my tool has an other rotation axis as the blank. I agree with you on the fact that this look more like a Turning operation, but how could i implement the rotation axis of my tool in a Turning operation. Because of that i used the "Generic Motion" in Milling.
I hope you can understand my explanation of the kinematic.peace

I have got a new question too. Can i just get the facetbody of my machined blank after a milling operation or is it also possible to get the facetbody of the sliver/chip (in German: Span / Abtragvolumen) in NX CAM? bigsmile

Thank You.

Sincerly
Rick
