Sizing a Sync Motor Field Discharge Resistor

Sizing a Sync Motor Field Discharge Resistor

Sizing a Sync Motor Field Discharge Resistor

(OP)
Does anyone know of a good resource for sizing a field discharge resistor for a 1000hp, 2.2kV synchronous motor? It's 100+ years old so manufacturers data is non-existant. I've found some references of 3x - 6x the field resistance, but I have nothing to back this up. Any suggestions?

ANSVIEEE C37.18-1979 - IEEE Standard Enclosed Field Discharge Circuit Breakers for Rotating Electric Machinery (there is probably a newer revision)
Section 9.3 Selection of Field Discharge Resistor
