Pressure Equipment Directive 2014.68.EU ESR 0.7 Joint Coefficient

Pressure Equipment Directive 2014.68.EU ESR 0.7 Joint Coefficient

Pressure Equipment Directive 2014.68.EU ESR 0.7 Joint Coefficient

(OP)
Hi All,

Looking for some advice regarding the PED ESR and it's 0.7 joint coefficient.

We are designing a new pressure vessel for mass production using a harmonized standard which allows 0.85 and 1 for the joint coefficient. However, we wish to use 0.7 for the calculating and NDT examination requirement. Can we partially apply the harmonized standard, other than the NDT examination and satisfy the PED ESR?

The alternative is we use the likes of ASME or 5500 which has the 0.7 visual examinations only.

TIA

RE: Pressure Equipment Directive 2014.68.EU ESR 0.7 Joint Coefficient

Using a harmonised standard is useful, as you've proven conformity with the PED. However, you can use all sorts of methods to comply with the PED, you can even mix them up if you like. But it'll get a difficult road then.

So yes, you can. But you have to prove, some way or the other, you fullfilled all ESR's.
