Slewing bearing connect two profiles

Slewing bearing connect two profiles

(OP)
Hello Engineeres :)

I have a problem with connecting two profiles with sleewing bearing. Since I'm fresh engineer with bachelor degree and enrolled on my master studies I have one project bilding a crane. That crane is made from two "hands" connected with a slewing bearing and I dont know the best way to connect them because of torsion and flexing. So if anybody have some idea or suggestion please share :) thank you!

See all the holes? Those are for bolts. You should plan to use lots of them, like those guys did. Alternatively, you could weld them, but then the bearing might not slew any more, and it also makes it more difficult to repair/replace it.

I'm sorry for not attaching images, but I know that those are for bolts, but because I'm lifting over 10000kg on 8 meters long hand I think that I need to come with some "creative solution" that is easy to calculate and effective. I am thinking of using HEA profile for second part of a crane, but it's really hard to variate between "nice" and good looking construction and something that will satisfy strenght of materials and welds. So here are some of the photos, but I think there are some better solutions which I can't see from perspective of young engineer without lot of experience.

All solutions are welcome it is just for educational purposes crane and I need to come with "great" solution to my professor. But I'm ut of my mind, because it seems that I sholud not cut my profile too much. With every cut it loses his strenght properties such as lower walue of Iy, Wy, Iz, Wz and other section properties.

RE: Slewing bearing connect two profiles

Why not study existing solutions in the myriad jib crane applications already in the wild?

Hey, because this need to be 18 meters high and it's UNI project which need to be unique. So in meantime I came with this solution...will this be alright?

RE: Slewing bearing connect two profiles

I didn't say buy a jib crane. I just suggested that you see how others solve certain geometric problems. What you are dealing with is not a new problem and it has quite a few common solutions.

If you are reinventing the wheel simply for the sake of reinventing the wheel, then you're going to have to dig around for inspiration. Or know something more about what problem, or the nature of the problem, you're trying to solve.

RE: Slewing bearing connect two profiles

The good news is that even if the design is unworkable, the effort that goes into it should prove that it is unworkable. The point of education isn't to be right, it is to learn something. In this case the calculations need to be right, even if the design isn't, so that one can learn how to analyze a design.

Did I do something against te forum rules? I just asked for concept ideas. Delete thread if it's against the rules. Thank you, and you can even delete thread or close it because I came up with good solution. And thank you everyone who gave some kind of answer :)
