Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

(OP)
Its for a material callout in my title block, but Im still on the fence between a few metals.

I cant remember what the abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided.
I ran through google with a handful of terms, but couldnt find it.

Not yet determined, not yet decided, material not specified, not yet indicated, yet to be determined...

Unless there is no proper way of stating it?

RE: Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

TBD is the go to term. Also a great big "Preliminary" stamped across the face of the drawing.

RE: Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

I used TBD myself, but now I started having doubts: is it listed in any Abbreviation standard?

The TLA TBD, IIRC, is SOP.

RE: Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

AFAIK, TBD S/B GTG

RE: Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

Not in ASME Y14.38a-2002 - but even if it was it would probably stand for Torpedo Boat Destroyer or some such!

Given by definition this can't be a final released drawing then not sure it's an issue.

RE: Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

I don't see an issue, it's just interesting to check on something considered obvious by myself.

I choose "to be deleted"

BTW, abbreviation for "bill of material" is BM, not BOM.

RE: Abbreviation for something that hasnt been decided

I'm glad I don't have any customers that care about -strict- adherence to ASME abbreviations in our product. The only BM I enter is that is transferred to the porcelain depository.

Until forced, I think we'll stick with BOM as does basically every one of my customers and vendors with only a few exceptions.

I agree with JNeieman, my BM goes that direction as well
