Maintaining an Older Component Revision When Filing Into and Dowloading an NX Assembly From PLM

Maintaining an Older Component Revision When Filing Into and Dowloading an NX Assembly From PLM

Maintaining an Older Component Revision When Filing Into and Dowloading an NX Assembly From PLM

(OP)
Hi - probably something simple, but I've never had to deal with this...

Is there a way to “lock” selected assembly waved component revision to a previous level before uploading it into PLM, and then have it download with that same revision automatically from then on (by any user)?

Here’s the situation:

1.We’re creating NX assemblies for an entire preexisting machine "fleet" as service work (parts replacement); we advance-order and stockpile a number of castings. When needed, a casting set is “taken off the shelf” to be finish-machined, and then we're tasked to create a machining/assembly model and drawing (three separate designs in total to cover a roughly 200-unit fleet that has about 20 different structured designs).

2.For one of the three casting types, we had a minor change to stock after the first (3) casting sets were already in inventory.

3. We are now in the process of “using up” the first three castings to “Rev 0” until they are gone; then we’ll start getting in the “Rev.1” castings.

I have three machining template assemblies to support each of the three casting sets. When I went to do the first machining for this type, I drew down the “Rev. 0” casting component files from PLM and manually replaced the Rev. 1 assembly components (UH and LH casting halves) in the assembly (no issues; both show as “Rev. 0” in the structure in my local files).

But, when I file it into PLM and then go back and check it by searching the assembly structure (as if to download), the components show as “Rev. 1”, like it automatically replaced the Rev. 0 and will use it for downloading.

Is there a way to “lock” the components to “Rev. 0”? This is especially important since other users may be downloading the assembly and taking ownership later based on management assignments (I may not control the assembly in the future). I seem to remember something about this in training or in one of our user meetings, but it’s such an unusual case…something about loading options (but that wouldn't insure downloading for other users, right?), or "show component revisions"? We get training infrequently (usually during upgrades), so "specific" details like this are often forgotten, and I can't find anything in the "help" utilities or online.

Maybe it has to be done in PLM itself? If so, does anyone know how?

Thanks

Take a look at "Save Precise Assembly" and "Load Precise revision rule".

Thanks...but, does this work with PLM? Everything I've seen so far on those topics seem to be about Teamcenter. For the record, I'm working NX10 with PLM/Enovia.

Forgive me if I'm missing something; I don't have much experience with the PLM interface other than the basics of filing NX models, searching, viewing, etc...

Thanks

I believe this would be a PLM rule which can be integrated into NX - and I am not sure if this is possible between Enovia and NX - it may, but, you would need Enovia/NX expert. Typically, integrations are limited, if not of the same vendor. Open, Save, Save As, Checkin/Checkout, etc., ususally not much else.
I've found that if you open the lower rev part first in your NX session, it will use it in the assembly when that is opened - but, this is a forethought for everyone, so doesn't solve your issue of a permanent method for others. I agree with petulf...Saving a precise assembly and using that rule to load your parts would be where you ask questions. See if Enovia recognizes those Assembly Load Options / rules.
