UG-99 (b) or (c)?
UG-99 (b) or (c)?
(OP)
Code: ASME VIII DIV.I
Item: simple carbon steel pressure vessel
Assumption: MAWP=DP (design pressure)
PT=1.3*LSR*MAWP
Question: according to PT above, is hydraulic test still UGG-99 (b)? Or does it become (c) for the MAWP=DP assumption? thanks

RE: UG-99 (b) or (c)?
UG-99(c) is based on the Maximum Allowable Pressure (MAP) which is calculated from the new and cold condition. The equation for UG-99(c) is PT = 1.3 x MAP.
Keep in mind that if your customer requires a pressure test per UG-99(c), you still have to make sure the resulting test pressure meets the minimum requirements of UG-99(b) (there are instances where (b) gives you a higher test pressure than (c)).
Hope that helps!

Do you mean "calculated test pressure" in Mandatory appendix 3, definition 3-2?
