ASME-B.31.3 2014 edition, Table 331.1 Postweld Heat Treatment

ASME-B.31.3 2014 edition, Table 331.1 Postweld Heat Treatment

ASME-B.31.3 2014 edition, Table 331.1 Postweld Heat Treatment

(OP)
Hello,

In ASME B31.3 edidtion Table 331.1.1 Postweld Heat Treament for P.No.1, Group Nos. 1-3: Holding Temperature Range, 595 to 650 Deg. C; Minimum Holding Time at Temperature for Control Thickness up to 50mm is 1h/25mm.... My interpretation to this is that All P.No. 1, Group Nos. 1-3 are subject to PWHT regardless of the pipe wall thickness, Can you please clarify?

Thank you and regards,
Andrewski

Unless there are exceptions. I don't have the Code but you should read it to confirm.

As is customary with codes and standards what edition of the code are you required to follow? ASME B31 Piping Codes have undergone a dramatic shift in PWHT exemptions in the last year. For the 2014 edition of ASME B31.3, there is no PWHT required for P-No 1 Groups 1-3 steel provided preheat is applied above a certain thickness and you have multiple pass welds. See Table 331.1.3.
