I have contacted SDI, ASCE, ACI etc. and no one seems to know, does anyone know of research which backs up the SDI and ASCE standard 2" of concrete above the flutes?

RE: composite Steel deck

Manufacturers of steel deck publish rated loadings for different slab thicknesses, different gauges of deck, one-two or three span conditions etc etc.  I am sure they have tested their product before they publish their brochures.  (Maybe I am about to learn something here.)

Why not contact the deck supplier and ask for his company's test reports?

You are right, they do publish that information, however the minimum slab above flutes is 2" in any of those design aids. I did contact them and got the same answer as SDI etc.
