Upgrading from NT4 to 2000

Upgrading from NT4 to 2000

(OP)
Hi,

Has anyone done this by just overwriting the existing NT installation using the upgrade function on the win 2000 disc. Ie, not formating the hard drive and reloading the operating system.

If yes how did it go? I'm concerned that our installation of pro E will just go hay-wire and cause us endless grief.

Cheers in advance,

Hayden

RE: Upgrading from NT4 to 2000

I recently upgraded. We rebuilt the machine from scratch. It works great. We are using Pro/E 2001 and Pro/I 3.1. I thought there would be more problems.... but, shockingly, there were not.

RE: Upgrading from NT4 to 2000

Upgarded also from NT to 2000, and worth it. Except my older video card (Accel STAR) was not supported on 2000, so upgraded to ATI Firfe GL.

All works great now.

Thanks guys,

Steve, did you reload the entire operating system from scratch or just use the upgrade cd and overwrite the existing NT 4 installation? This is what we want to try here to reduce the time needed.

Cheers

Hayden

RE: Upgrading from NT4 to 2000

Hayden, You can try this. Go in the Program files\proe2001\bin\   directory. And find the pro setup file. Run it and give the path of your license file.(If it is an stand alone machine) or you have to reinstall the flexLm. and intall the proe server and repeat the above process.
It should work after that without reinstalling everything.

RE: Upgrading from NT4 to 2000

Hayden, we reformatted the disk and installed a clean 2000, since our last NT 4 was buggy.

You can install over NT, since 2000 is really "NT 5". We have done this and it works well too.

RE: Upgrading from NT4 to 2000

I upgraded a couple seats from NT to W2K using the upgrade function a year or so ago.  I don't remember having any issues other than out-of-date drivers (printers, graphics, etc.)
