Creating Curves Through Center of Beam/I-Beams

Creating Curves Through Center of Beam/I-Beams

(OP)
Hello all. I was wondering what the quickest approach would be to create curves though the center of a series of welded I-beams. I need to do this in order to create a 1D mesh on the FEM/SIM side. I basically need to create a frame of sorts out of lines/curves. Any ideas?

Thanks

Forgot to mention I'm using NX 11

RE: Creating Curves Through Center of Beam/I-Beams

Hello,

Creating mid-surface and extract the curves from it may solve the issue.

RE: Creating Curves Through Center of Beam/I-Beams

unless you or somebody writes a special program to create the center line in an I-beam, Mathi's proposal is probably the simplest solution.

1) create midsurface-s ( search the command finder for "midsurface") maybe the Offset option is the simplest/quickest. (?)
2) create Isoparametric curves ( search the command finder) . for speed purposes, set it to "U and V", "uniform" , "number = 3"

Regards,
Tomas
