wear analysis in abaqus

wear analysis in abaqus

(OP)
Hi everyone

Im simulating a pipe under pressure distribution and looking forward to run a wear analysis on the pipe surface.
is there anyone who can help me toward a correct path?

Thanks

RE: wear analysis in abaqus

Do you mean that a fluid is moving through the pipe and you want to calculate the wear of that?

RE: wear analysis in abaqus

yeah thats exactly what im looking for

RE: wear analysis in abaqus

I'm afraid there is no built-in function for your task, but it can be done with the subroutine UMESHMOTION. But I think it will not be easy.

There is an example in the documentation:
See Example Problems Guide 3.1.8 Tread wear simulation using adaptive meshing in Abaqus/Standard

The other (but not recommended) way is to create a really fine mesh and use material damage definition with element removal. But that analysis would run an extremely long time.

RE: wear analysis in abaqus

You can learn from what has already been done i.e. using UMESHMOTION for simulating wear using the empirical Archard's law. Lots of theses out there. As an example, look for a '16 TU Delft Masters thesis on turbocharger wastegates.
