Opening in Column Base Plate

Opening in Column Base Plate

Opening in Column Base Plate

(OP)
Contractor on my project is asking if he could have an opening in base plate to run some conduits. Is there any calc that anybody could share which I can use to check my base plate design incorporating the opening?

RE: Opening in Column Base Plate

The calc is plate bending and concrete crushing. Post a scaled sketch with some dimensions and loads and we may be able to supply some real help.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: Opening in Column Base Plate

Refer the contractor to the utility industry. He can get information from them how to accommodate his conduit. He can also check ASCE Substation Design Guides. Won't he need a column opening for wire splices?
