Fuel pump mileage control system for truck fleet

Fuel pump mileage control system for truck fleet

Fuel pump mileage control system for truck fleet

Hello!

I need help to try to come up with a simple solution for this:

The situation:
-We own a truck fleet used for transportation.
-Drivers have access to a fuel pump self-service inside our facilities.
-Pump system registers fuel quantity and driver ID each time it is used through a card-swipe system.
-System also allows for manual input for current vehicle mileage (total mileage).

The problem:
-Mileage must be inserted manually by the driver.
-Drivers sometimes refuel during late night shifts.
-No personnel is available during those hours (or most of the day) to make sure mileage input is correct.
-Drivers may input wrong mileage at the time of refueling, resulting in incorrect mile/gal calculations.

What kind of control system would you recommend to make sure that the data being introduced is reliable?

RE: Fuel pump mileage control system for truck fleet

There are possibilities. Bluetooth OBD widgets can be bought from eBay on the cheap. While they apparently do not read odometers, for some reason, there are other distance parameters that can be read. Seems to me that you could get a Bluetooth receiver to download data from the vehicle being fueled and can use that information, which would give you relative distance traveled, and add that to the last known mileage recorded during servicing.

Note that the wealth of information that the OBD interface can download could potentially aid you in your overall fleet maintenance, as various problems would be detected with days or hours of occurrence, rather than relying on self-reporting by the drivers. That might be an issue with the drivers, as maintenance potentially means downtime for the driver, possibly without pay.

Most vehicles have mileage digitally, so for a specific manufacturer there may be an OBD code that can pull the mileage directly.

Or add a wireless Bluetooth read GPS that's read out when a gasfill occurs.
