(OP)
Hi

I'm trying to develop a robot control system which will use ultrasonic trilateration to determine the robots position.

I was intending to use correlation to detect the arrival of an ultrasonic pulse at a beacon in the robots environment as part of the positioning system.

The robot already uses a microcontroller to process steering commands from a PC. Can anyone tell me if it would be possible to implement the correlation algorithm on the same processor or would a dedicated DSP processor be required?

Thanks

RE: correlation

Depends on the microcontroller throughput margin.  If it's a COSMAC1802, you're in for a rough ride.

I'm a little concerned that the issue will be trying to overcome multipath and diffraction effects as opposed to the basic functional performance.
