Copper question

Copper question

Copper question

(OP)
Hi,

Ive been making bike bells from 1.5mm thick 60mm copper discs and normally they ring very loud and for quite a period of time however I just got a new batch of discs and they dont ring and basically make a thud! I ordered the discs from the same laser cutting firm and both times its been C106 copper sheet. The brass and steel discs I ordered ring the same as previously

Could someone explain to me what is going on?

Steven

RE: Copper question

Could be two things.
1. Wrong alloy
2. Wrong condition, Were these a lot softer than the usual ones?

RE: Copper question

Go back and check with the supplier what was supplied, and request verification for material identification.

RE: Copper question

They state is was C106 half hard so wonder what was supplied the first time. They say they have high turnover but this is their stock sheet.

Is it the hardness that's the issue? I'll try to get full hard in that case

RE: Copper question

I think that it is more likely that they accidentally sent you the wrong alloy.
I am not sure how much the damping factors change with cold work, but the initial tone should be the same.
