Fire Damage Notes

Anyone have a good set of fire damage repair notes they can share?

Wood.

RE: Fire Damage Notes

I'll see if I can dig some up... I have some somewhere, but have to locate them. There are specialty contractors that deal with fire damage... cleaning, steaming, and encapsulating the 'burn'. Even a small 'opening' can allow the burned part to 'smell'. Also, the pyrolysis of wood can make it more prone to future fire. Also something to disclose to future owners.

Thanks dik. I would appreciate any notes...

RE: Fire Damage Notes

I would love to see those too, if you can share them publicly. Cheers!

Please remember: we're not all guys!

RE: Fire Damage Notes

Found the CD it's on last night, but unreadable... having my son take a look at it this weekend to see if he can extract parts... He can get at things that I can't...

Thanks dik...

RE: Fire Damage Notes

Mike...I was going to recommend Dik since he started accumulating data for a paper years ago. JAE and I were also going to help, but as happens.....

Search the forums on the subject as Dik has provided some good answers to related questions.

Ok. I'll look.

Thanks.

RE: Fire Damage Notes

The data's not recoverable... looks like I have a coaster...

RE: Fire Damage Notes

Mike,
Look up papers and presentations by Robert H. White, a Wood Research Scientist at the Forest Products Lab of the US Forest Service. I believe he recently passed away, but he was THE expert on fire damage in wood.

Thanks Ron. I'll check it out.

Mike:

As a follow-up to Ron's post the FPL's "Wood and Timber Condition Assessment Manual" has a chapter on evaluating fire damaged wood. Link

RE: Fire Damage Notes

Ron... I had filled out the outline... and that was the document lost. There may be other copies, but, not easy to find.

Dik

RE: Fire Damage Notes

Dik....I don't know if you sent me a copy of the outline, but I'll look and see what I can find.

RE: Fire Damage Notes

Ron:
I sent you a copy of the outline a while back... and filled in the blanks a couple of months later... that was the file that was lost... I keep backups of backups and can only guess... have several hundred CD's...

Dik
