NACE MR0175 - Understanding The Requirements

NACE MR0175 - Understanding The Requirements

(OP)
Hello,

Just wanted to check my understanding of NACE MR0175 correctly.

Am I right in saying NACE MR0175 is for materials to be used in sour environments that make the material susceptible to suplhide stress corrosion cracking?

Therefore, considering 17-4PH Precipitation Hardened Stainless Steel for example, the steel must have a Hardness limit of 33 HRC Age hardening at 620°C. This limit on the hardness therefore limits the materials susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking?

RE: NACE MR0175 - Understanding The Requirements

Yes you are right, amongst several other cracking mechanisms.

S17400 will be required to have a specific solution anneal followed by a double ageing, or modified double ageing, treatment.

Compliance gives some assurance of resistance to sulphide stress cracking/stress corrosion cracking, but it does not guarantee immunity.
