I'm an EIT with a question about the structural design of an elevated slab supported on each corner by columns. I've been reading literature on two way slab design but it seems like all of the information is tailored towards multiple span slabs(DDM, EFM): what about flat plates with only one bay?

Is there another way I should be looking at this? For reference we are detailing a small, square (4ft), elevated slab to sit on four square columns in each corner.
The slab will support a chemical day tank.
Any input helps, thanks!

if it's only 4 feet i'd probably just do one way in each direction... sorry that doesn't answer you question. The best answer will come from the PE reviewing your work since we all have our own preference. But the code does accommodate single span

I would also be looking at choosing the depth of slab such that the edge "beam" (column width plus slab depth) is thick enough to work for shear without reinforcing.

The slab is either one-way or two-ways plate if it is supported only at four corners. You can build edge beams as jayrod12 said in previous post. The connecting beams will covert the slab to one-way or two-ways plate and also provide lateral resistance capacity of the structure. Anyway. the it is better to have a structural guy going through the whole situation, such as, the loading, the foundations, the columns and the slab.
