Attachment to HolllowCore Planks for Appendix D??

Attachment to HolllowCore Planks for Appendix D??

Attachment to HolllowCore Planks for Appendix D??

(OP)
it there are post installed fastener that I can get some sort of values for to attach to?
Say for 300# service load shear.
I am in California thus Cracked Concrete is a concern.

RE: Attachment to HolllowCore Planks for Appendix D??

Hilt has some published values I believe. But it might be for tension only. Look at their hy70 adhesive stuff.

Alternatively we've broken a hole and grouted the core, then just design as if it were regular concrete.

For ungrouted P/S hollow core planks, I would use jayrod's second option.

Otherwise after-set bolt into the fully grouted section.

Try calling the all of the major post-installed anchor manufactures for there recommendations. EG: Hilti; ITW (Red Head, Ramset, Tapcon, etc); Powers/Dewalt; and Simpson. You may be out-of-luck with cracked concrete. There are some small drop-in anchors for use with hollow core, but I don't think any have been evaluated for use in cracked concrete

RE: Attachment to HolllowCore Planks for Appendix D??

Anchors like the HDI-P are banned by the Canadian code due to seismic reliability concerns. I should imagine if anyone makes a reliable one, it would be Hilti, but they are still banned.

They are also still in wide and common use. *sigh*

A code ban takes a long time for all the pertinent people to learn and understand (Engineers, Code Examiners, Building Inspectors, Contractors, etc.). Note that I don't include suppliers, as I have seen suppliers pushing banned materiel before...

RE: Attachment to HolllowCore Planks for Appendix D??

Those types of anchors are highly reliant on being 'set' correctly. We did a survey once of a previously erected frame that was removed that was hanging below a floor and found about 50% of these types of anchors were not originally installed correctly.

Since then I've tended to fill cores in new construction as its pretty easy to do when placing the topping concrete, but in existing construction filling the cores is easier said than done.

RE: Attachment to HolllowCore Planks for Appendix D??

At existing construction, when loads were small enough, I have reluctantly used Hilti HY-20 with screen tubes. This is not ideal for overhead conditions due to installation concerns and possible long term creep. Hollowcore is not specifically mentioned in the ICC report either- but I have been able to sell that if it works in hollow CMU, it works in Holowcore by comparison.

It looks like jayrod12 option is the best for cracked concrete.
Also, of the research for drop in's seemed to be a little scary.
I ultimately used Hilti XU PAF and at a tight spacing. Thanks guys
