Prestressed Sandwich Walls

Prestressed Sandwich Walls

Prestressed Sandwich Walls

(OP)

Hi!

Can I put 1/2" strands at 1.5" with 30kips pullout for 8" sandwich walls (3"-2"(insulation)-3")?
I am concerned about the cracks along the strands especially at the anchorage zone.
Isn't there any guideline about this problem?

PCI Desing Handbook says 1/2" strands are allowable for the wall (wythe) of thickness 3" or greater.
Doesn't pullout force matter?

Thanks!

RE: Prestressed Sandwich Walls

What do you mean when you refer to "30 kips pullout" and "doesn't pullout force matter"?

And 1/2" dia strand at 1.5" c/c spacing is a ridiculous amount of prestress.

What structural loads do these panels support?

These precast sandwich walls are for the storage with steel frame. (Height=30ft)
Let's assume 20 psf of wind load.
1.5" is the strand location in the middle of each wythe, not c-c spacing.
And, about 70% of Pi will be applied.

RE: Prestressed Sandwich Walls

I've seen sandwich tilt up walls casted in yards. They were about 10 inches (6,2,2) thick. I'd be surprised if prestressed could compete. Fro 30 ft., they might have to be a little thicker, like 11 inches (7,2,2) thick.

RE: Prestressed Sandwich Walls

Why would you want to do it?

Along with Ingenuity's questions.

What are you minimum cover requirements. What type of prestress? Is it only in one direction?

If you actually gave the information an engineer needs to design something like this you might get some answers.
