Allow Rotation of a Rigid Body

Allow Rotation of a Rigid Body

Allow Rotation of a Rigid Body

(OP)
Hi,

I am currently modelling a 3-point bending problem of a pipe. The pipe is supported on either end by a saddle with a load saddle in the middle to apply displacement constrained loading until failure. Both the support and load saddles are modeled as rigid bodies. My issue is that the support saddles at the ends must mimic a roller support and allow rotation as the pipe bends. However,I have applied the boundary conditions for the saddles at a reference point (fixed all translation DOF and 2 rotational DOF). Due to the fixity in the vertical and horizontal translations, the saddle is not able to rotate even though I have released the rotational DOF.

Can someone help me with this issue??

I am fairly new to ABAQUS.

Thanks!

RE: Allow Rotation of a Rigid Body

I think the problem is, that you've placed the RefNode too far away from the part. That means, that a rotation around the RefNode involves a large translation of the rigid. You should place the RefNode in the potential rotation center.

Thank you Mustaine3L That solved my issue. Now my supports are rotating correctly as the pipe deflects.
