Please Provide the Missing View...

Please Provide the Missing View...

OK, let's start with a simple Drafting assignment.

Given Two views of a physical object, Top and Front, please provide the missing Side view. Note that all the edges of the object have been fully and properly rendered in the Drawing below:

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

I'll try this.

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

VE1BLL - doesn't work - you would see dashed lines in both the top and front view that aren't there.

I agree with Greg too.

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

Or if building with 2D planes is allowed, you could possibly arrive at this answer as well,

At this point, in the real world, the draftsman comes back and says, "Sorry. I accidentally omitted not only the side view, but also some key lines on the other views. So, no, the prototypes that you built were very clever, but none of them are what was intended. Here's the corrected copy."

smile !!

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

Try to visualize this: Take a hole saw, cut out a cylinder with it. Now, use the hole saw at right angles on that cylinder and get a little plug that's circular in two views. Then take the hole saw, and go at it 90 degrees from each of those directions, and you should have a shape that is a circle in all three views, but isn't a sphere, either.

Reminds me of the old adage about "Drawing Three Views of a Ball-Bearing".

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

Not exactly a circle in all three views.

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

Oooo. Where's my 3D printer.

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

On the original post- the two views with the triangular block and little block sticking in/out- that little block could be semicircular/rounded also. And that whole face need not be flat, for that matter.

RE: Please Provide the Missing View...

For the original post, I was asked to provide the side view to that exact figure on a job interview coming out of college. Took me a few minutes to figure it out, but I got it. In the background, the interviewers were discussing how long it took for them when they first interviewed for the company.
