Can anyone suggest a reliable cable joint kit for submersible applications other than 3M? Thanks

RE: Suggestions for cable joint kits for submersible applications

Define 'submersible'.

Are you talking about something that can survive waterlogged ground conditions, or something for the bottom of the ocean? What voltage / cable size are you considering?

LV jointing kit for 35 sq mm 4 core cable. Use will be for a submersible well water pump. The joint will be completely submersed in water.

Raychem or Shrink Polymer Systems to name a couple?

RE: Suggestions for cable joint kits for submersible applications

Hey Shark,
I have installed many submersible pumps (ie Flyght pumps) over the years. I have always been able to buy the pump with a long enough length of cable such that the termination is always above the high-water mark.
If the pumps are already bought with too short a cable, I believe that Tyco-Raychem has a product that will work (as Scotty mentioned above).

I assume you have arrangements in place to support this cable? It won't be able to support its own weight over a long vertial length unless it incorporates strength members specifically for this purpose, and the joint itself will have virtually no ability to handle tensile loading.

Scotty,
On this side of the pond, we would normally use a Kellums cable grip to support the cable(s).

Thanks GG, saved for future reference. I don't do much with wells, but occasionally we need large temporary power supplies to high places and those could be very useful in supporting those cables. smile

GG, What is the standard procedure for the support of cable for deep well water pumps? We use cable ties to hold the cables.
Thanks.
