Pump Vibrations

Pump Vibrations

(OP)
Hi,

could anyone please advise if any serious pump vibrations can be caused if the sea chest strainer on the suction side is clogged? is it normally experienced in the marine industry?

regards

RE: Pump Vibrations

Yes you can get serious vibrations if your inlet is blocked

Yes it is quite common - seawater is not clean (seaweed, fish, plastic bags, ropes all get sucked in and block strainers.

Can you isolate and clean the strainers?

Or back flush?

Very very little information given here so only a short answer is possible

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

Pump Vibrations is:
- Annoying!
- Frightening!
- Noisy!
- Costly!
- A Warning!

Pump Vibrations is caused by:
- A bad Bearing or Bushing!
- A Broken or Eroded Impeller!
- One or more broken Anchor Bolts!
- A Broken Coupling!
- A Blocked Suction Strainer!
- Captivation due to low suction head!

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

Sanikapatel. Don't high-jack other threads, start your own thread by posting a well thought out question.

RE: Pump Vibrations

It seems that pump run above or bellow the following graph region may cause the vibration problems.
