AISI 1008 steel mechanical properties

Hi Guys
I'm looking for the mechanical properties of 1008 steel sheet. I'm told its 1/4 hard and has a hardness of 68 HRB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
Roy W

RE: AISI 1008 steel mechanical properties

What specification is it made to?
There is an ASTM spec for as cold rolled steel sheet.

This link is for Structural steel, I was looking for sheet metal

Thanks

RE: AISI 1008 steel mechanical properties

Roy W,

Your question is too generic. What are you after? Tensile strength? Thermal conductivity? What condition do you want it in? Where are you going to buy it from? You can use this site as a good starter for ballpark numbers.

Cheers.

Yes I'm looking for the Tensile and yield strength. The link you provided gives me a range and I'm looking to be more specific. I think the range is because of the temper of the material (correct me if I'm wrong). I know the temper (1/4 Hard) and the hardness (68 hrb). How do I finger out what the Tensile and yield strength are? We are already using this material and I need to do simulation testing in SoildWorks.
Should I send the material out to a lab and have it tested?

RE: AISI 1008 steel mechanical properties

It costs $100 or less to have a certified lab perform tensile testing. According to ISO 18265, 68 HRB is equivalent to an approximate tensile strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi). Yield strength probably would be 310-350 MPa, based on my quick review of SAE J2392 and EN 10139.
