Cantilevered Wide-Flange section unbraced length

Cantilevered Wide-Flange section unbraced length

(OP)
Good morning,

Would someone please advise what flexural unbraced length should be used for a cantilevered wide-flange beam; should it be just the cantilever dimension or twice the cantilever dimension?

Thank you!

RE: Cantilevered Wide-Flange section unbraced length

It very much depends on the rotational restraint condition at both the cantilever support and the cantilever tip as well as the vertical location of the point of application of the load. 1 x span is likely to be unconservative.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
