Hello everyone, i am new to eng-tips.

I had a contractor select the water pumps that will be installed on a closed loop with a Yazaki hot water fired chiller and i think that the pump is to weak for the specifications of the chiller and for the resistance created by the elbows, valves, 3-way valve in the system. Can someone please give me a guide on how to calculate the head needed for the system in order for me to select the right pump?

Did you ask the contractor how they derived the flow and head to the installation?

Like you say. Look at all the items in your system and add up the fluid losses. Fittings can use the equivalent length method and them tully need to know or estimate losses through the units.

As you ignore elevation in a closed loop system, don't be surprised if the answer is quote a small head loss. Your pump could easily boo good for the duty.
