Welding A36 to A992

Welding A36 to A992

(OP)
Is there any concern specifying welds for A36 (36ksi) material to A992 (50ksi)?

My supervisor was questioning this and it is something i have never considered to be a problem.

Any thoughts?

RE: Welding A36 to A992

No.

RE: Welding A36 to A992

Just check base material as if it's A36 - no issues welding it though.

RE: Welding A36 to A992

Specifically this is indicated in the American Welding Society codes.

Refer to AWS D.1 (2010 ed), where the specific filler metal required are shown in Table 3.1. As you probably don't have it, I will quote the tables.

For SMAW welding, the electrode to be used is shown as either E7015, E7016, E7018, or E7028 (all A5.1 electrodes). E7018 is most commonly used. Specifying E70XX as is often done would not be correct for A992 to A36. (It would be correct for A36 to A36)
