Solid Unreinforced Masonry Pier
Solid Unreinforced Masonry Pier
(OP)
I have a 32"x32" grouted unreinforced masonry pier that is 48" tall. The resultant load is very much outside of the kern. Kern is 5.3" and my eccentricity is 8". Is it possible to analyze the pier similar to an eccentrically loaded footing where the resultant is outside of the kern? I would like to ignore flexural tension stresses, so my effective section would be the "3a" dimension. I don't see anything in the ASD chapter of ACI 530 that discusses eccentricities outside of the kern.

Would it work as a 24x24 or 20x20 pier centered under the load, and within the 32x32 pier? If so, it should be o.k., as long as there is no great lateral load at the top.
