PED 2014/68/EU Module A2

PED 2014/68/EU Module A2

PED 2014/68/EU Module A2

(OP)
Dear all engineers,

Is anyone of you familiar with Module A2 (or A1 in earlier PED)? Basically I would like to confirm the level of involvement of Notified Body in this module A2. For example, do we need to get the Notified Body to approve our design calculation and construction drawing? Or do we need to submit the design appraisal document to NoBo and get the approval before we start the fabrication?

Appreciate that if you can share with me the experience.

Thanks!

Cheers.

RE: PED 2014/68/EU Module A2

Basically, you need to inform the notified body on this, and theyll monitor the final assessment. Since you apply the NoBo's ID number on your nameplate (usualy next to the CE-mark), the NoBo needs to regsiter your pressure equipment in his system. He may perform an unexpected visit and review some stuff like document or the work fabricated. This is what the PED says on this matter:

Quote:

4. Final assessment and pressure equipment checks
The manufacturer shall perform a final assessment of the pressure equipment, monitored by means of unexpected
visits by a notified body chosen by the manufacturer.
The notified body shall carry out product checks or have them carried out at random intervals determined by the
body, in order to verify the quality of the internal checks of the pressure equipment, taking into account, inter alia,
the technological complexity of the pressure equipment and the quantity of production.
During its unexpected visits, the notified body shall:
— establish that the manufacturer actually performs final assessment in accordance with point 3.2 of Annex I.
— take samples of pressure equipment at the manufacturing or storage premises in order to conduct checks. The
notified body assesses the number of items of equipment to sample and whether it is necessary to perform, or
have performed, all or part of the final assessment of the pressure equipment samples.
The acceptance sampling procedure to be applied is intended to determine whether the manufacturing process of the
pressure equipment performs within acceptable limits, with a view to ensuring conformity of the pressure
equipment.
Should one or more of the items of pressure equipment or assembly not conform, the notified body shall take
appropriate measures.
The manufacturer shall, under the responsibility of the notified body, affix the notified body’s identification number
during the manufacturing proces
Most NoBo's use application forms which you can fill in when you have a new piece of pressure equipment.

Hi XL83NL,

Thanks for the info. In that case, do I still need to submit my construction drawings to NoBo prior to the fabrication?

Or they will just come for final assessment after the fabrication.

Thanks!

No

Thanks again XL83NL,

May I have one more question? How about Design Appraisal Document (DAD)? Do we need to furnish it and submit to Nobo before we start any fabrication for module A2?

RE: PED 2014/68/EU Module A2

No. I have no experience with PED modules from a fabricator point of view, only from a customer/buyer point of view. The DAD is issued once all is completed, as it is a result of the total scope and shows compliance with all requirements. I'm however not sure if a DAD is issued for module A2. You could check that with a simple call to your nobo.

RE: PED 2014/68/EU Module A2

Isn't the DAD just a Lloyds Register document?

I am familiar with the A1 of the PED/97, however not with the A2 of the PED/2014. The A1 was simple - you register the unit with your notified body, and once you were happy with the design, you could begin fabrication and then they would come and witness the final proof test and may do a documentation review, depending on your familiarity with the NoBo. Your documentation would contain design drawings, list of standards applied, any calculations carried out, test reports etc.

The A2 however may not be an inspection at the final proof test, however at random intervals throughout the fabrication process.

If you want the NoBo to sign off on the design, you would need to look at another assessment procedure, e.g. module G

RE: PED 2014/68/EU Module A2

A2 is just a new name for A1. If I remember correctly, theyre the same. The modules havent changed with respect to their contents.
