Virtual Wind Tunnel Test (VWTT)

Virtual Wind Tunnel Test (VWTT)

Virtual Wind Tunnel Test (VWTT)

(OP)
Hi everyone,

Does anyone used a VWTT to asses preliminary Wind loads for a complex building?
I know there is Flow Design from Autodesk and HyperWorks from Altair but I've only used the first but i'm not very sure about the results.

Thanks,

David

RE: Virtual Wind Tunnel Test (VWTT)

I have looked into it before, but it is super complicated because the testing (whether virtual or scale model) has to be calibrated properly. You can't just throw some geometry into Flow Design and expect accurate pressures. At best, you will be able to see the relative difference in laminar/turbulent flow and where they occur.

These guys are experts at wind analysis. There is a reason why structural consultants hire them to provide wind pressures for complex structures - because it is not worth trying to do on your own.
