How to understand the symbol ellipsis " ..." in chemical composition table of ASTM

How to understand the symbol ellipsis " ..." in chemical composition table of ASTM

Dear, bro,
In ASTM material specification, each specification specifies the chemical composition of that material, shown as the fellow table,

in some column, there is a symbol ellipsis " ..." in that line, the note of this table indicates: the ellipsis " ..." represents "no requirement"

How to understand "no requirement" ? Does it imply the chemical element that the symbol ellipsis " ..." appeared Cann't present in this material. in other words, it implies this chemical element can be included in the material.

RE: How to understand the symbol ellipsis " ..." in chemical composition table of ASTM

Simply, it means that analysis for that element is not required to be reported on the MTR.

This has been asked on ET before by others and weldstan is correct.

Dear weldstan
As your point, that analysis result for that element is not required to be reported on the MTR. If the result of the element is very high or very low, how can the purchaser judge the acceptance of the Material.

Can you send the web-link of that thread.Dear metengr ?

RE: How to understand the symbol ellipsis " ..." in chemical composition table of ASTM

Generally speaking, the specifications limit the total amount of other elements not required to be reported. From a purchasing standpoint you can always ask for these elements to be reported.
