Hello everyone,

I am searching the hardness number of SA 178-C material. Its not in ASME part II-A.(or maybe its somewhere there)
I have a requirement to take hardness test on this material and I just want to know the maximum and minimum hardness number limit.
Kindly point me to a reference.Thank you and I appreciate any feedback.

Kind regards,
JB

RE: hardness number

Based on my US Steel and EPRI reference materials for this material supplied under the A178 material specification, I would expect a hardness range of 75 to 85 HRB (Rockwell B scale).

Hi metengr,

I will take a look on the references you've provided.Thank you very much.
This would really help me a lot.

Best Regards,
JB

RE: hardness number

If it isn't in the material spec then it is reference only and you cannot accept/reject based on hardness. Is the tensile strength correct?

RE: hardness number

If you need to have a hardness range in your contract specs, you must include that requirement in your P.O. for the material.

RE: hardness number

If the original poster stated it is a requirement, perhaps by the Purchaser, it shall be done if they are paying for it. On occasion I have seen these types of requirements by Purchasers.
