ASCE 7-16 Release Date

ASCE 7-16 Release Date

ASCE 7-16 Release Date

(OP)
Does anyone have any information on the release date for the ASCE 7-16. In particular I would like to see what is different with the snow load maps, apparently there is a lot of new data especially for previous case study areas. I would love to get my hands on a pre-release copy of the snow load chapter just to see what is up and coming.

Any sneak peaks of the snow loads chapter out there?

RE: ASCE 7-16 Release Date

There is some other discussion here: http://www.asce.org/structural-engineering/asce-7-...

The public comment period is over, so I don't think you can get your hands on it. it won't be adopted until 2018 at the earliest anyway, and it sounds like its mainly mountainous regions that had special data, that ASCE deferred to previously, added to the maps. So likely nothing too crazy and different unless you are in that type of region.

This paragraph is particularly interesting:

New regional snow data generated by state Structural Engineers Associations in Colorado, Oregon, New Hampshire, Washington and other mountainous states, that is now directly referenced and eliminates many, older site-specific Case Study zones.

RE: ASCE 7-16 Release Date

I have never seen or read ASCE 16 but I have done work in NH, a state that is mostly covered in CS within ASCE. The tables they have make it easy to figure the snow loads throughout the state. I imagine they are going to reference this table and other similar tables. If this is all that has changed (doubtful) I wouldn't be too worried.

So they are basically incorporating the state snow load studies into the standard, fair enough. I've already done an interactive map of NH (based on the ERCD/CRREL TR-02-6) hopefully this doesn't change, otherwise I'll have to redo it.

RE: ASCE 7-16 Release Date

That's how I would read into it. Interestingly enough, TR-02-06 was already inserted in ASCE7-02 in the appendix. I'm thinking it would be the same based upon reading that paragraph.

RE: ASCE 7-16 Release Date

I have the public comment draft sections and figures back at my office. I will send them to the address on your website tomorrow morning. Offhand I cannot remember the changes proposed.

Thank-you, I would appreciate that.

RE: ASCE 7-16 Release Date

Oregon has had their own snow load maps for quite some time. It's super easy. Just plug in the latitude and longitude and it will give you the ground snow based on that. It's always good to make sure it makes sense, but it's really easy.
