Strand7 transition
Strand7 transition
(OP)
Hi.
We are considering acquiring Strand7 to facilitate some of our modelling over SAP2000. We are focusing on the design of advanced foundations for wind turbines. so the reasons we are interested in it are:
a) 3D modelling seems better
b) the API, which should speed up parametric analysis
c) contacts with friction, useful for soil-structure interaction
d) non-linear materials for solids, useful for soils & to some extent concrete (although cracking & crushing are not considered)
To those of you out there who have used both programs:
1) How easy is it to transition to the other?
2) Was there anything you missed in Strand7 that SAP2000 has?
Thanks,
Adrian Corella, P.E.

RE: Strand7 transition
I personally use SAP2K for NL dynamic behavior, modal analysis, bridge assessment and you name it!
Strand7 we use for Finite Element course to teach them the basics because its an Aussie software
Regarding API, I found both to be handy, and works fine even with Matlab. I reckon you could find more tutorial on SAP2k if you stuck at some point in comparison to Strand7.
Hope this helps
Shoot for the Moon, even if U miss, U still land among Stars!
