FIre Damaged 2x6 - Any Alloable Values??

FIre Damaged 2x6 - Any Alloable Values??

(OP)
I inspected a fire damaged house today and recommended they replace all the fire damaged or even smoke damaged timber for Roof Rafters and post, but my question is, are there any guild lines (FEMA or NDS), that I could even calculate an allowable bending value or tensile value of burned wood. I'm guessing that an allowable values of Wood which was say 1000 psi would be good for at least 100 psi or so if just lightly charred.

Either way I told them to remove and replace.

RE: FIre Damaged 2x6 - Any Alloable Values??

The NDS has an entire fire rating chapter. I believe you just evaluate the member based on the amount of actual section remaining.

That is what I do. Usually, unless things are spanned out pretty far, most can be saved. Dealing with the smell is another story.
