Guideline for # of Weld Passes vs. Pipe SIze for Stick?

Hi guys. Any of you have a rough guideline for the number of weld passes vs. pipe size for stick process in CS pipe? For example, for 2" sch 40, I know there is a root pass, hot pass, and cap. AS the size goes up you have to start adding filler passes. If you have the info for XS and XXS that would be great too. GTAW/GMAW need not apply. Ha Thanks guys!

RE: Guideline for # of Weld Passes vs. Pipe SIze for Stick?

It depends an electrode diameter and AWS class used and the ability of the welder. I assume the electrode is a cellulosic type like EXX10.

Great points. Just assume a typical low-tech plant piping or pipeline WPS, 1/8" electrodes and E6010 or 5P+, maybe LH. I'm just looking for a reasonable figure to use for number of passes. Thanks!

RE: Guideline for # of Weld Passes vs. Pipe SIze for Stick?

Are you only interested in 2" diameter? Also is progression vertical up or down?

Thanks Li, much appreciated. I don't see in there where it lists the weld passes although it does show weight of weld metal and it's implicit that there are four passes.
