Dear Sirs,

I have material SA516-70N + S5 and MDMT -10 degree celcius which will be welded using E7016/ER70S-6 and WPS & PQR without impact test.
my question, is it possible to application?

if it is possible, kindly inform us for the references code.

Best Regards,
Bahruni

RE: E7016 / ER 70S 6

What is the construction code? This will determine what needs to be done regarding welding and any further impact test requirements.

RE: E7016 / ER 70S 6

Quite possibly yes but will depend on construction code and thickness.

RE: E7016 / ER 70S 6

(OP)
ASME code sec. VIII Div.1 is requirement code to be used for construction and thickness 18mm.
Please advice.

RE: E7016 / ER 70S 6

This is a welding issue not a construction reference code issue. the material you will to welded is SA516-70N+S5, that means, the steel bear a normalized heat treatment, S5 represents the supplementary requirement of charpy v-notch impact test. according to the principle of construction code. when the base metal with a impact test requirements, the WPS which acts the guide of welding activities shall perform the impact test. consequently, a WPS or PQR without impact test is not applicable.

BUT the welding consumes of E7016 and ER70S-6 have a good impact toughness characteristics, you can add a impact test using the same essential various of the origin PQR and then use a new WPS&PQR to weld the components.

RE: E7016 / ER 70S 6

If Section VIII, Div 1 is the construction code, you follow the requirements of UCS for impact exemptions unless this is for lethal service. 18mm base metal thickness does not require impact testing so no impact qualification is necessary for the weld metal. So, yes, it can be done.

RE: E7016 / ER 70S 6

As per metengr, the WPS does not require impact testing to be done on its PQR.
