Error in Theory of Plates and Shells by Timoshenko

Error in Theory of Plates and Shells by Timoshenko

(OP)
For those who use Theory of Plates and Shells by Timoshenko, an error in Table 47 of the second edition has been discovered. The error is discussed in an article by Angus Ramsay and Edward Maunder in the July 2016 issue of STRUCTURE magazine (www.STRUCTUREMag.org). The error seems to be typographical in nature. For an aspect ratio (b/a) equal to 0.5 and at the center of the plate, the My coefficient (β1') should be 0.0120, not 0.0102.

RE: Error in Theory of Plates and Shells by Timoshenko

If that is the only error in the book, that would be a remarkable achievement.

That it has taken so long to find it is not quite so remarkable.

I wonder how many other publications that number has found its way into.

Dang. That just invalidated my life's work.
