Nozzle design

Nozzle design

I have a request for a nozzle design that is located on the shell. It is oblong leaving the shell then has a transition (obround to circular) then a flange. Where do I look for the calculations to design this to ASME Section VIII Division 1? Thank you in advance for your help!

RE: Nozzle design

Ug-37 for reinforcement, UG-40 for limits thereof. If the flange is a custom design, then per Apx. 2.

No specific rules for required thickness of the nozzle neck at the obround, it will be a U-2(g) calculation. Often avoided for this reason.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Thank you SnTMan.

RE: Nozzle design

Might add, you will likely need to check reinforcement in two (or more) directions, depends on the orientation of your obround. Good luck with it.

Mike
