seal face material selection.
seal face material selection.
(OP)
Dears,
I have a query regarding seal face material. As per api 682 3rd edition , there a table B.2 which shows maximum temperature limit of faces. so as per table 425 degree is maximum limit.
If my pump fluid temperature is around 600 or 700 degree in that case what will be my face material?
Is there any other materials available in the market which can sustain more than 600 or 700 degree temperature?
Thanks in advance.

Agreed. For high temp we can not use elastomers. we go for metal bellows. but sir what about seal faces?
Which material should we go for seal faces?
Thanks in advance.

Pumping temp is 360 (Normal) & 425 (Max)
Vapor pressure is - 0.04
Specific Gravity is - 0.831.

Yes vapor pressure is correct.

For named conditions most suitable material is SiC + Metal bellows from stainless steel.
Suppliers much.
This is assuming that no thermal and mechanical shocks
If there are oft thermal shocks, the silicon carbide is quickly destroyed.
It is understood that the polymers, even modified, are not suitable.
The next option in the absence of mechanical shocks - quartz glass, has excellent resistance to thermal shock, good hardness and satisfactory compressive strength.
In the presence of thermal and mechanical shocks should only use stainless steel (nickel alloy) with a non-porous ceramic coatings, such as chromium nitride etc.
