Bolted Endplate Moment Connections

Bolted Endplate Moment Connections

Bolted Endplate Moment Connections

(OP)
Does anyone have a good reference on calcing endplate thicknesses in bolted endplate moment connections beside the AISC manual?

RE: Bolted Endplate Moment Connections

If available to you, try the following references,

Structural Steel Designer's Handbook by Brockenbrough and Merritt

or

Design of Steel Structures by Gaylord, Gaylord, and Stallmeyer.

RE: Bolted Endplate Moment Connections

Besides the AISC Manual, AISC produces a Steel Design Guide Series (No. 4) titled "Extended End-Plate Moment Connections.  It's fairly cheap and available from AISC.  Try their website www.aisc.org.

RE: Bolted Endplate Moment Connections

For the same computational effort or for the same structure, is it 'easier' to design in steel or in reinforced concrete?

IE. as regards the number of checks which need to be done etc.

Thanks
Cheeze

RE: Bolted Endplate Moment Connections

AISC manuals are great, but you may also try out Eurocode 3 annex J, and if you can get access to "Examples to Eurocodes 3" then that may be even more helpful. By the way please note that between code there is usually not much difference in the way they assess behavior of joints, only their design approach may differ. So theoretically AISC or eurocodes 3 do not really differ much.
