WQMS spec on steel Sheet ?

WQMS spec on steel Sheet ?

WQMS spec on steel Sheet ?

(OP)
Hi I have an old 1960's drawing which has a 12mm thick base plate of a mild steel tank . There is an annotation on the drawing pointing to this base plate which says " WQMS Mild Steel".
I'm thinking this could be Water Quenched Mild Steel but its only a hunch .
would anyone be able to clarify what this might mean ?.

The Tank only holds waste water and is about 2m Ø

RE: WQMS spec on steel Sheet ?

Morel likely the WQ stands for Weld Quality, ie weldable.

P.E. Metallurgy, Plymouth Tube

RE: WQMS spec on steel Sheet ?

Does it really matter and why guess about it? WQMS - weld quality maintenance specialist or weld quality management services.
The bottom line is to identify the steel if you intend to replace it or weld repair. It is as simple as that.

Thanks Edstainless
I think you may be right with the Weld Quality , makes abit more sense than Water quenched .

Metengr

Unfortunately we can't get to the part we need to replace , I agree we could look at the data and work out the most suitable steel to use but didn't see the harm of asking the question.
