Spool design and fabrication per B31.8

Spool design and fabrication per B31.8

(OP)
I have one open enquiry where in a spool design and fabrication is required as per ASME B31.8
Customer piping class has flange MOC as A694 F65 for forging and size is 36"x 1500#.This size & rating is out of scope of B16.5....so we r using sec VIII Div I code to design these special flange.
However when cheked....i noticed that A694 F65 material is not coverd in sec II part D for allowable stress value selection....now how to move forward in this situation...PED 2014/68/EU certification is also required for this spool piece.is WPS qualification per sec IX is okay for B31.8 code.

RE: Spool design and fabrication per B31.8

B16.5 does not cover large diameters. As it is a pipeline, use MSS SP44 Specification for (large diameter) Steel PIPELINE Flanges, in your case it will be Grade Y65.

RE: Spool design and fabrication per B31.8

BI, I think you missed the bit about #1500 (!!) SP 44 only covers up to #900.

Your other bit I'm afrain I don't know

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

RE: Spool design and fabrication per B31.8

At least the material won't be the problem.

RE: Spool design and fabrication per B31.8

Speaking B31.8 and pipeline, PED 2014/68/EU may very likely not be applicable. Refer to the guidelines.
Not sure which one, but there's one covering the topic on pipelines corssing different properties/land areas.
